NIH study shows that Oregano Essential Oil Kills 99% of Breast Cancer Cells in Vitro: Researchers have just shown that oregano oil kills >99% of human breast cancer cells at remarkably low concentrations. In fact, oregano was the most powerful of four essential oils (sage, ginseng, stevia) at killing all six different cancer cell lines tested, including cervical, breast, leukemia, lung, and colon cancer. How? It was discovered (surprisingly) that oregano almost completely depletes cancer cells of their glutathione—an antioxidant they need to survive. Without glutathione, cancer cells are highly vulnerable to oxidative stress and quickly die. Oregano has also shown such potent antifungal activity (sharply reducing Candida growth) and antibacterial activity (inhibiting listeria, salmonella, pseudomonas and others) that it’s now being tested as a natural preservative for raw chicken meat (with promising results already). Pumpkin Extract Inhibits >80% of Pancreatic Cancer Cells: In this new lab study, an extract of pumpkin known as cucurmosin inhibited the growth of human pancreatic cancer cells CFPAC-1 by over 80% after 72 hours of treatment, and killed 55% of them outright (by inducing cell cycle arrest in the G0/G1 phase and inducing apoptosis). Researchers stated that this compound holds great clinical potential for inhibiting cancer. Pancreatic cancer continues to be the fifth most common cancer worldwide with a 5 year survival rate of less than 6%, due mainly to the fact that chemo drugs have a very poor rate of success with this cancer.

Rhubarb Potently Kills Breast Cancer Cells in Vitro: Rhubarb is a rich source of the anticancer compounds emodin and aloe-emodin, and these were shown to kill up to 86% of human breast cancer cells (MCF-7) in vitro after four days, and to kill virtually 100% of these cells after six days. These compounds have also been shown to kill prostate cancer, lung cancer, gallbladder cancer, colon cancer, and leukemia cells in other lab studies. Another rhubarb compound, rhein, is truly fascinating because it literally starves cancer cells of the sugar they need to live, thereby killing them. Rhubarb itself is a very healthy fruit, low in sugar (just 20 calories per serving!) but rich in calcium, potassium, cancer-fighting vitamin K, and also lutein—which helps prevent macular degeneration. It’s been used in traditional Chinese medicine due to its numerous other health benefits (antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant) and has also been used in several clinical trials (but not yet for cancer). And women with osteoporosis take note: a very recent study showed that emodin actually increased bone density in mice by increasing the number of osteoblasts, which are bone-building cells. Baking Soda Slows Breast Cancer Metastasis in Vivo: This new study on mice showed that feeding them drinking water with baking soda (200 mM) effectively alkalized their blood and breast tumours, decreased circulating #cancer cells by a remarkable 50%, and resulted in fewer metastases of the primary tumours. The alkalinisation was verified by measuring the pH of the urine, which peaked at 9 about one hour after a bolus dose of baking soda and slowly decreased back to normal after six hours. The researchers point out that an acidic environment around the tumour appears to accelerate several processes required for cancer growth and spread, and that alkalizing the tumour can therefore slow this down. Note that several other studies have also verified that baking soda (sodium #bicarbonate) can prolong life in vivo for metastatic cancer. Avocado Slows Breast Cancer Growth by 99% in Vitro: Persin, a natural compound found in avocado fruit and leaves, inhibited the growth (proliferation)
of human breast cancer cells (MCF-7) by up to 99% in this study, and killed over 95% of the cancer cells outright. In other studies, when persin was added to tamoxifen it increased the kill-rate of breast cancer cells over seven-fold compared to tamoxifen alone! Tamoxifen treatment sometimes fails because the breast cancer cells are resistant to it, but persin was able to destroy that resistance for many of the cancer cells, making them susceptible to the drug. Avocado has been cultivated (by the Incas) since 750 B.C. and derives its name from the Aztec word for “fertility fruit.” The leaves, seeds, bark, roots and flesh of the avocado have all been used in traditional medicine. Avocado is truly a superfood: ounce for ounce it provides more potassium, magnesium, beta-carotene, folic acid, vitamins E and K than any other fruit. It’s also rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated fat, and also carnitine—which may help with weight loss. All great reasons to go long on the guacamole this summer! Chilli Extract Kills Pancreatic Cancer Cells & Shrinks Tumours: Capsaicin, the stuff that makes hot chilli peppers hot, was seen to reduce the viability of pancreatic cancer cells (SW1990) by 90% in this new lab study. The main mechanism was increased stress in the endoplasmic reticulum which killed outright (by apoptosis) nearly 50% of the cancers cells. In mice, treatment with capsaicin led to pancreatic tumours that were about 50% smaller than untreated mice. Capsaicin already has well-established activities against several cancer cell lines including #cancer of the breast, colon, prostate, lung, stomach, bone, bladder and others. Researchers have theorized that higher #capsaicin intake may be one important factor why countries with spicier diets have far lower cancer rates (i.e. cancer incidence Mexico = 128, India = 98.5, USA = 300 cases per year per 100,000 population. Citrus Peel Extract Shrinks Prostate Tumours Up to 94%: An extract of multiple citrus fruit peels, rich in flavonoids, reduced the weights of human xenograft tumours in mice by 57%-100% inhibition, and the size of the tumours by 78%-94% inhibition. The extract (called Gold Lotion) down-regulated multiple inflammatory enzymes, proteins related to metastasis, angiogenesis, and proliferation, and induced programmed cell death (apoptosis) in the cancer cells. Thus, this extract potently killed cancer cells while simultaneously preventing the tumours from metastasizing or even hooking up their own blood / nutrient suppl with new blood vessels. Evening Primrose Kills Prostate Cancer Cells & Slows Metastasis in Vitro: Researchers have just discovered that an extract of evening primrose seeds kills up to 83% of human prostate cancer cells (DU145), and at quite low concentrations. The extract was found to be extremely rich in polyphenols, flavanols and procyanidins—all powerful antioxidants and anticancer compounds. More interestingly, the evening primrose extract also sharply decreased the cancer cells’ ability to spread (metastasize) by decreasing levels of a key enzyme called MMP-2, which is needed by cancer cells to attack and invade surrounding healthy tissue. Evening primrose seed extract has also shown potent activity against breast cancer and colon cancer in other studies. Evening primrose is better known for its unique oil, which contains high amounts of gamma-linolenic acid, and is commonly used for rheumatoid arthritis, eczema and to decrease PMS in women. Native Americans used evening primrose seeds, leaves and roots to treat hemorrhoids, wounds, bruises and skin issues. Western medicine is finally catching up: evening primrose oil has now been tested in three separate clinical trials (cyclical breast pain, dermatitis, benign breast disease) and a fourth trial in ongoing for treating ADHD in children. Citrus fruit and cancer risk in Japan – The Ohsaki cohort study
The Ohsaki cohort study was carried out on over 42,000 men and women, aged 40-79, starting in 1994. Citrus fruit consumption was determined by questionnaire, and patients were followed up with from 1995 to 2003 (average follow-up period 7.6 years). During that time, 3,398 cases of cancer were identified. Eating citrus fruit every day provided no significant cancer protection for non-tea drinkers. But for those drinking at least one cup daily of green tea, the story was different. Joint effect analysis showed that men experienced an overall 17 percent reduction in cancer risk, while women saw an 18 percent reduction. Both results were statistically significant. Those consuming citrus fruit three to four times per week saw a reduced but still significant benefit of 11 percent cancer risk reduction. But the most stunning result of the Ohsaki cohort study is that green tea drinkers who added citrus fruit to their diet every day saw increased protection from cancer even beyond that from drinking green tea alone. This is important, because multiple studies have already shown that green tea consumption may significantly reduce the risk for several cancers (lung, ovarian, endometrial, prostate, liver, oral).

When data was further analyzed for individual cancers, more impressive results emerged. Daily citrus with green tea provided a 38 percent reduction in pancreatic cancer risk for men and women, and a 37 percent risk reduction in prostate cancer for men (both statistically significant). Sizable risk reductions for other cancers were also observed (breast, renal, colorectal, esophageal, bladder) but due to the small number of cases, statistical significance was not reached for any of them.

Maple Syrup Kills 84% of Colon Cancer & 49% of Breast Cancer Cells: Maple syrup contains a unique family of polyphenols called ginnalins. Ginnalin A was found to kill 49% of human breast cancer cells (MCF-7) and 84% of human colon cancer cells (HCT-116) in vitro while ginnalin B killed somewhat fewer of these cells (30% breast cancer, 50% for colon cancer) via programmed cell death (apoptosis) after 72 hours of treatment. Ginnalin C didn’t kill the cells but put them into cell cycle arrest. Together, the #maple syrup polyphenols could exert potent anti-cancer effects against both breast and colon #cancer (and possibly other cancers). Just remember that maple syrup is by definition loaded with sugar so moderation is the key here!

Noni Compound Kills 92% of Breast Cancer Cells in Vitro: Damnacanthal, a compound found both in the fruit and roots of the noni plant was shown to kill 92% of human breast cancer cells (MCF-7) in vitro after 72 hours of treatment. The natural extract also inhibited growth of the cancer cells by up to 98% – all at very low concentrations. Noni is a well-known super food which can stimulate the immune system, is a natural antiviral, antibacterial (antibiotic), anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and even has pain-relieving properties. Noni extracts have been shown to be active against lung cancer, cervical cancer, colon cancer and others in lab studies. Seaweed Shrinks Breast Tumours & Outperforms Chemo: This new trial on rats showed that the red edible seaweed Eucheuma cottonii L. shrank breast tumours by 91% while the chemo drug Tamoxifen only shrank the tumours by 71% after 28 days of treatment. Untreated rats saw their tumours nearly double in size during this time. This is not the only trial showing seaweed can fight breast cancer: another recent lab trial showed that Sargassum sp. can kill up to 60% of MCF-7 breast cancer cells in vitro, and a recent study out of Korea showed that women consuming the most seaweed (Porphyra sp. – the nori used to wrap sushi) reduced their risk of breast cancer by 54% if premenopausal and by a stunning 68% if postmenopausal. Spinach Inhibits Colon Cancer Cells 90% & Reduces Tumour Size: An extract of spinach was found to potently inhibit proliferation of colon cancer cells by 90% in vitro, and when fed to rats at a dose of just 40 mg/kg body weight, it reduced colon tumour size by a staggering 60% compared to untreated rats after 30 days. The active compound in the extract is not beta-carotene but rather a fatty substance found in chloroplasts known as MGDG (monogalactosyl diacylglycerol). The amount of spinach required to reach the same dose in a 75 kg human would be over 1 kg daily, however the study also found that colon tumours were reduced by about 25% in mice fed only 4 mg MGDG per kg body weight and this would be equivalent to 200 grams of spinach per day. Mom was right. Eat your spinach. Note: parsley contains 3X more MDGD than spinach does, while chives, perilla and crown daisy nearly as much as spinach. Lesser but significant sources of MGDG are pumpkin, broccoli and green pepper.

For these studies, cells were treated at a concentration range of 1–20 µg·mL−1 for 2–7 days. As shown in Fig. 2A, extract treatment demonstrated significant growth inhibition in treated SW480 cells, with 85% inhibition at 5 µg·mL−1 and 100% at doses ≥10 µg·mL−1. Next the effects of the four isolates, IxoA, IxoB, PhilB and Withpc, were evaluated using the same cell line. As illustrated in Fig. 2B, all four compounds significantly suppressed cell proliferation in a dose-dependent manner ranging from 80% to 99%, at 1 µm and 10 µm, respectively. Vitamin D Extends Life for Women with Breast Cancer: In this new study, researchers have just shown that breast cancer patients with the highest vitamin D levels had 42% less risk of dying compared to women with the lowest levels. It’s well known that cancer patients live longer when their vitamin D levels are higher, but this study has shown one of the strongest benefits yet of getting more of the sunshine vitamin. How much should be taken for prevention? The key dose appears to be at least 1100 IU daily—that was enough to lower women’s overall cancer risk by an amazing 77% after 12 months in a previous study. While foods are a great way to get vitamin D (fatty fish, fortified dairy products, eggs, mushrooms) sunshine will always be the richest source: twenty minutes under the midday sun in shorts or bikini will get most people about 10,000 IU of vitamin D right now—enough for the whole week! Once you’ve had enough, put on the sunblock to be safe. And remember to get plenty of magnesium in your diet, which has been shown to boost vitamin D’s benefits up to 500% (even by taking just 100 mg supplemental magnesium daily). All this should be on the back of a diet rich in vegetables, fruit and whole foods, organic and raw whenever possible.

Shallot Extract Kills >90% of Leukemia Cells in Vitro: In this study, researchers purchased fresh shallots at a local market, prepared a water-extract, then observed it potently kill three types of leukemia cells (K562, Jurkat, Wehi164) in vitro after 72 hours. This super-vegetable has also shown activity against breast cancer, cervical cancer and liver cancer in other studies. Shallot is quite similar in taste to the onion, and is indeed a member of the same family of vegetables (allium), as are garlic and leeks. Interestingly, shallots were recently shown to be richer in antioxidants than all ten varieties of onions tested. In fact, one serving of shallots has the same antioxidant power as 640 mg of vitamin C! Shallots also possess impressive antifungal and antibacterial properties—but unlike garlic, shallots still kill bacteria and yeast even after cooking. They have also been shown to lower cholesterol levels (in mice) and inhibit the growth of the ulcer-causing Heliobacter pylori bacteria. Shallots may also help with weight loss: they contain S-allyl cysteine (as does the onion) which powerfully inhibits the generation of fat at the cellular level, by inhibiting the key enzyme fatty acid synthase. Shallots can be substituted for the onion in almost any recipe, and make a great addition to a healthy diet rich in vegetables, fruit and whole foods.

Broccoli Kills >80% of Pancreatic Cancer Cells & Halts Stem Cell Growth: Broccoli is one of the richest sources of sulforaphane, a potent anticancer compound which in this study was discovered to specifically target pancreatic cancer stem cells. Not only did sulforaphane stop the stem cells from renewing themselves, but it also wiped out up to 80% of the cancer cells in general. This is important because cancer stem cells are usually almost impossible to kill. So impressive is this ability of sulforaphane that it is currently being tested in a clinical trial (in Germany) on patients with advanced pancreatic cancer that is not treatable by surgery (daily dosage: 90 mg of sulforaphane from freeze-dried broccoli sprouts, equivalent to eating about 300 grams of raw broccoli). Population studies have also shown that broccoli family vegetables may reduce pancreatic cancer risk—by up to 30% if eaten 3X weekly. Broccoli has been also shown to protect us from multiple other cancers, most notably of the breast, prostate, colon and lung. Try to get at least 3-6 servings weekly of broccoli (or cruciferous vegetables) for optimal protection. It’s great as broccoli salad, in vegetable smoothies, with dips, or lightly steamed (5 minutes max!). Try to eat at least one serving per week raw: it has the anticancer power of about 5-10 servings of cooked broccoli!

Stinging Nettle Potently Kills Breast Cancer Cells in Vitro: A hot water extract of stinging nettle leaves (Urtica Dioica) was shown to kill over 80% of human breast cancer cells (MCF-7) in vitro in this lab study, by inducing programmed cell death (apoptosis). The extract was also a powerful antioxidant, with roughly double the antioxidant power of pure vitamin C. Stinging nettle already has a long history in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine, and is used to treat allergies, asthma, arthritis, gout, enlarged prostate, infections, hemorrhoids, and even high blood sugar. Its use is especially common in Brazil, Morocco, Turkey, Jordan and the Middle East. Research into the anticancer properties of stinging nettle is relatively young, with one other study showing it also kills prostate cancer cells in vitro. But stinging nettle has been heavily researched for treating diabetes. In fact, it was even used recently in a clinical trial for controlling blood sugar in people with Type 2 diabetes—and it worked. Diabetic patients taking stinging nettle saw their blood sugar levels decrease in the fasting state as well as after eating. In that trial, the dose was 3 tea bags daily boiled in water for 20 minutes (2 grams of stinging nettle leaves per bag). Diabetes is a major risk factor for cancer, so this is another way singing nettle may reduce cancer risk.

Watermelon Compound Halts 95% of Breast Cancer Growth in Vitro: Watermelon is a rich source of the unique compound known as cucurbitacin E. In this study, cucurbitacin E was shown to slow the growth of human breast cancer cells by up to 95% and increase the rate of programmed cell death by an amazing 1800%. So do these lab results translate into real health benefits for women? Yes they do. A recent study out of China showed that women who ate more watermelon, cantaloupe and papaya had 38% less risk of breast cancer (canteloupe is also a rich source of cucurbitacin E, as are winter squash, pumpkin and cucumbers). How much was needed for this effect? Roughly 5-10 servings per week. And watermelon doesn’t just benefit women. Another study out of China published just last year showed that men eating 163 grams daily of watermelon had 35% less risk of prostate cancer. In other lab studies it has been observed to potently slow the growth of ovarian, colon, lung, mouth, pancreatic and bladder cancers, as well as glioma (brain cancer). By making pumpkin, winter squash, watermelon, cantaloupe and cucumbers (as seasons permit) a regular part of a diet rich in fruit, vegetables and whole foods.

Tremendous news from the world of anti-cancer research today!

In a fascinating new study (Nov 2013) published in Molecular Cancer (an open access, peer-reviewed online journal) researchers in China have discovered that 6-Shogaol, a major pungent ingredient in ginger induces apoptosis (cell death) in human leukemia cells both in vitro and in vivo – without side effects!

Several other studies have indicated anti-cancer potential for ginger. The researchers also stated that 6-Shogaol “could induce cell death/apoptosis in a variety of cancer cells including human lung cancer, colorectal carcinoma, hepatocarcinoma, ovarian cancer and breast cancer cells.”

What’s remarkable about the results found is that 6-Shogaol appears to act selectively (that’s the magic word!) against the leukemia cells, but but not against normal bone marrow mononuclear cells.

Now it’s important to understand that this news of course does not mean that ginger is considered a proven anti-cancer medicine. That would require many more studies – including human trials. However, it indicates that ginger, already known to be a profoundly beneficial spice to health in many ways, has real potential as an anti-cancer agent.

Another fascinating facet of the modern research on ginger is that it is pointing towards the conclusion that the individual compounds in ginger have a synergistic effect when taken together. In other words, the healthiest way to consume ginger may be to eat it as a whole food.

You will often hear herbalists mention the benefits of “whole plant extracts”. This makes sense, if you take a step back and think about it from an evolutionary standpoint. We are survivors, and we have consumed whole foods from the natural environment for hundreds of thousands of years. Our bodies are fine-tuned to eat whole foods – and the manner of consuming food (and even “food-like products”) that has appeared in the last few hundred or few thousand years is highly anomalous to what we are evolutionarily designed for! It is, in fact, completely bizarre. Foodstuffs are now “created” artificially in buildings; not for reasons of increased health, but for reasons of creating marketable products with high transportability and shelf stability. Why do we think we can do better in a few years of science than foods which we have been fine-tuned to eat over hundreds of thousands of years of natural selection?

I think I am going to make some ginger tea! Wash then chop some thin slices of fresh organic ginger and put them in a cup. Pour on freshly boiled (filtered or mineral!) water, and add raw honey and fresh lemon to taste. Mm mm! Then when you are done, get a spoon and chomp down the ginger slices for maximum benefits. Okra Inhibits 75% of Metastatic Melanoma Cells in Vitro: Okra is emerging as a superfood against both #cancer and diabetes. In this study, #okra pectin inhibited the proliferation of highly metastatic mouse #melanoma cells (B16F10) by 75% after 48 hours of treatment and also increased the rate of programmed cell death (apoptosis) by nearly 23-fold. The researchers also discovered that the pectin triggered apoptosis by interacting with Galectin-3 (similar to the well-known modified citrus pectin). In other recent studies, okra was shown to kill 72% of human breast cancer cells (MCF-7) in vitro, and a population study revealed that American men eating a “Southern” style diet (characterized by eating okra, grits, cornbread, beans, rice and sweet potatoes) had 40% less prostate cancer. Multiple studies have now also confirmed okra as a potent anti-diabetic food both in lab experiments on tissue cultures and in rats. Clinical trials on people have not yet started, but the internet is currently teeming with anecdotal reports of diabetics finding help by soaking cut-up okra pieces in water overnight and then drinking the water in the morning (interestingly, roasted okra seeds have been used in Turkey for generations as a traditional medicine for diabetes). Bottom line: okra may be the next superfood of the 21st century.

Mainstream medicine continues to push women to get yearly mammograms as a way to defend themselves against the epidemic of deadly breast cancer. However, mammograms do nothing to prevent the disease or improve survival rates. But the amazing little flaxseed does.

Scores of studies reveal the anticancer effects of flaxseed. Researchers from the University of Toronto recently reviewed the literature to answer questions about the compounds found in flaxseed and how effective they are in reducing breast cancer risk and tumor growth, and whether flaxseeds interact beneficially with breast cancer drugs.

They reviewed in vitro, animal, observational, and clinical studies on flaxseed and flaxseed oil, as well as lignans found in flaxseed.

Lignans are a class of phytoestrogens or plant estrogens that also act as antioxidants. Other foods also contain lignans including sesame, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, grains (rye, barley, wheat and oats), broccoli and beans. But flaxseed has hundreds of times the amount of lignans as any of the others.

The University of Toronto review documents the amazing power of flaxseed to prevent and slow the growth of breast cancer. Here’s what the studies tell us:

The majority of animal studies show a diet of 2.5%-10% flaxseed or the equivalent amount of lignan or flaxseed oil reduces tumor growth.
Diets consisting of 10% flaxseed and the equivalent amount of lignans do not interfere with but rather increase the effectiveness of tamoxifen. A diet of 4% flaxseed oil increases trastuzumab/Herceptin effectiveness.
Observational studies show flaxseed and lignan intake, urinary excretion, or serum levels are associated with reduced breast cancer risk, particularly in postmenopausal women.
Lignans reduce breast cancer mortality by 33% to 70%. They also reduce all-cause mortality by 40%-53%. In both cases, lignans do not reduce the effectiveness of Tamoxifen.
Clinical trials show that taking 25 grams per day of flaxseed (containing 50 mg lignans) for 32 days reduces tumor growth in breast cancer patients.
Taking 50 mg of lignans for one year reduces breast cancer risk in premenopausal women.

Flaxseeds protect women from breast cancer in a variety of ways. Here are just a few:

Flaxseeds decrease tumor cell proliferation. When eaten, lignans in flaxseeds are broken down by bacteria in the gut into 2 estrogen-like compounds that circulate through the liver. These compounds have been proven in animal studies to help prevent breast cancer by preventing tumor growth.
Lignans block tumor blood supply. Tumors need angiogenesis – new blood vessels – to supply oxygen and nutrients for growth. Flaxseeds inhibit the growth factor needed to stimulate angiogenesis according to animal studies.
Lignans lower estrogen production. Lignans block aromatase, the enzyme involved in the production of estrogen. Blocking the enzyme lowers estrogen production. High estrogen levels have been linked to the growth of breast cancer.
Lignans block estrogen receptors. Phytoestrogens like lignans have been estimated to be hundreds of times weaker than human estrogen. But these plant estrogens dock on estrogen receptors and prevent the activity of stronger cancer stimulating human estrogens and environmental or xenoestrogens. In that way their effect is similar to the cancer drug Tamoxifen.
Lignans help generate more protective estrogens. Estrogen is broken down in the liver into three different metabolites. Two of those metabolites are linked to the growth of breast cancer cells. But the third type – 2-OH estrone – does not stimulate cancer growth and is considered protective. Lignans influence how the liver breaks down estrogen and encourages more of the protective 2-OH estrone and less of the other
cancer producing metabolites. An earlier meta-analysis showed that flaxseed can prevent and kill breast cancer. It cited observational studies suggesting the consumption of flaxseed may:

Decrease risk of primary breast cancer by 18%
Improve mental health of breast cancer patients by 76%
Lower mortality among breast cancer patients by 32%

Adding cancer-protective flaxseed to your diet is easy.

Many of the studies show just 25 grams (2.5 tablespoons) per day is effective. Studies also show that up to 40 grams per day are safe in postmenopausal women.

Choose either golden or brown flaxseeds but make sure they’re organic to avoid GMO varieties.

Grind the seeds in a coffee bean grinder. But ground flax will go rancid so grind only a week’s worth and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer.

Add 1 or 2 tablespoons to cereals, smoothies, yogurt or salads. You can also add it to baked breads and muffins. Aim for 2 to 4 tablespoons per day but work up to that gradually so that your digestive system adjusts to the high fiber content
Flaxseeds lower the risk of metastasis. Flaxseeds may substantially decrease cases of metastasis. In one animal study, a high flaxseed diet reduced the incidence of metastasis by 82% compared to the control group.

Nigella sativa (NS), also known as black cumin, has long been used in traditional medicine for treating various cancer conditions. In this study, we sought to investigate the potential anti-cancer effects of NS extract using SiHa human cervical cancer cells. NS showed an 88.3% inhibition of proliferation of SiHa human cervical cancer cells at a concentration of 125 microL/mL methanolic extract at 24 h, and an IC50 value 93.2 microL/mL. NS exposure increased the expression of caspase-3, -8 and -9 several-fold. The analysis of apoptosis by Dead End terminal transferase-mediated dUTP-digoxigenin end labeling (TUNEL) assay was used to further confirm that NS induced apoptosis. Thus, NS was concluded to induce apoptosis in SiHa cell through both p53 and caspases activation. NS could potentially be an alternative source of medicine for cervical cancer therapy.

Dandelion Extract Kills 96% of Human Leukemia Cells in Vitro: This study found that dandelion root extract was extremely cytotoxic to all three types of human leukemia cells tested, killing up to 96% of the CMML cells (Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia)after 48 hours of treatment in vitro. The extract was prepared from dandelions freshly picked from a local grassy field, and the researchers stated that the extract has “great potential” as an effective alternative to conventional chemo. Will dandelion work against this cancer in real people? In fact, the study was carried out by cancer researcher Dr. Caroline Hamm because several patients in her Canadian cancer clinic went into remission for months by using dandelion tea. One patient in particular was a 72 year old man for whom aggressive chemo treatments had failed. The hospital sent him home, telling him it was time to put his affairs in order with his family. He started drinking dandelion tea and returned to the clinic 4 months later in complete remission from the cancer. Three years later, he was still in remission and healthy. The Canadian government has since then agreed to fund initial clinical trials to test dandelion root extract against leukemia. In the meantime, further studies have found that dandelion extracts are also potently active against pancreatic cancer, melanoma, breast cancer and prostate cancer. This is no surprise to herbal medicine specialists: various extracts of dandelion have been already used for centuries in traditional medicine to treat multiple illnesses.

Used in the ancient Chinese and Indian systems of medicine, curcumin is a naturally powerful anticancer compound that has been found to decrease brain tumor size in animals by 81 percent in more than 9 studies. A derivative of turmeric, curcumin is the pigment responsible for turmeric’s yellow-orange color. Each 100 grams of turmeric contains around 3 to 5 grams of curcumin, though turmeric is a also very powerful on its own. New studies are shedding light on curcumin, and illuminating its numerous benefits on cancer and other diseases.

Researchers experimenting with curcumin in the treatment of a fatal brain cancer known as glioblastoma (GBMs) published their groundbreaking findings in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry in July. Adding scientific basis to previous findings surrounding the positive effects of curcumin, they showed that the compound dramatically decreased brain tumors in 9 out of the 11 studies examined by 81 percent. Furthermore, there was no evidence of toxicity, whereas chemotherapy and other cancer treatments often result in extreme side effects that are sometimes worse than the actual disease. Curcumin is not only effective against brain cancer, however.

According to a study conducted in 2008 and published in Cancer Prevention Research, curcumin also inhibits the growth and spread of breast cancer cells by directly impacting the function of alpha6beta4 integrin, responsible for cancer progression. Another study, performed in 2010, found that curcumin also has the potential to target cancer stem cells. Following the wave of information of curcumin, researchers who posted their findings in Molecular Pharmacology classified curcumin as a pancreatic cancer cell inhibitor back in 2009. Even more interesting is the fact that in most of these studies the researchers concluded that curcumin may also aid many different types of cancer that were not included in the trials.

While an amazing anticancer substance, studies have also pinpointed curcumin as a tool against more than 572 other diseases. Some of these include, in order of study count: oxidative stress, inflammation, DNA damage, lipid peroxidation, chemically-induced liver disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and liver fibrosis. Curcumin has even been found to influence more than 700 genes, which could explain its link to DNA repair.

Curcumin is an amazing natural compound that has profound effects on cancer and hundreds of other diseases. While it has been widely studied compared to many other nutritional substances, studies are only beginning to recognize the healing effects of curcumin and turmeric.

Newly Discovered Zucchini Compound Kills Leukemia and Melanoma Cells in Vitro: In this study, researchers discovered three new compounds in the seeds of the common vegetable zucchini. One of those compounds turned out to be cytotoxic towards human leukemia cells (killing over 50%), and also to mouse melanoma cells (killing up to 67%) in vitro. Even more interesting is that researchers also recently discovered similar compounds in pumpkin seeds, also cytotoxic to both leukemia and melanoma cells. Pumpkin and zucchini both belong to the squash (Cucurbita) family of vegetables, as do cucumbers, watermelon, cantaloupe and other melons. These all contain cucurbitacins—unique and powerful natural compounds which have been shown in lab studies to suppress many different types of cancer including ovarian, colon, lung, mouth, pancreatic and bladder cancer, as well as glioma. No human studies have yet been done on zucchinis, but past research has shown that men eating 163 grams of watermelon daily had 35% less prostate cancer, and women eating a diet rich in watermelon, cantaloupe and papaya had 38% less breast cancer. Bottom line: if you want to reduce your risk for cancer, consider adding squash family vegetables year-round to your diet. Zucchini in particular is easy to prepare and can be eaten raw in salads or cooked in stews and soups, or as zucchini bread.

But does apigenin offer real health benefits in humans? Two recent studies have shown that women eating diets high in apigenin reduced their risk of ovarian cancer by 20%, and reduced their risk of breast cancer risk by 19%. More specifically for lung cancer, a study out of China showed that people eating two to three servings of celery per week reduced their risk of lung cancer by an astounding 60% (1 serving = 80 grams or two medium stalks). In the case of lung cancer, we don’t know if it was just the apigenin alone or working together with celery’s many other beneficial compounds. So if your goal is to reduce lung cancer risk, it’s best to actually eat the celery (which has also been linked to lower colon cancer risk in other studies). Celery goes great as a snack all on its own, or mixed into salads, salsa, vegetable smoothies, stir fries, stews, and soups (see below for more recipes).

Mangosteen Kills 97% of Bladder Cancer Cells In Vitro: This breakthrough lab study showed that mangosteen extracts reduced viability of all seven types of human #bladder #cancer cells tested between 80% and 97% after 72 hours of treatment. Bladder cancer is the fourth most common cancer in men and eighth in women in the USA, with over 73,000 new cases ever year. The key compounds in #mangosteen responsible for killing the cancer cells were the xanthones gartanin and alpha-mangostin. The reason this study is a breakthrough is that it shows the levels of these xanthones required to kill off the cancer cells are actually achievable in “real life.” A previous study showed that people drinking mangosteen juice had urinary levels of xanthones of up to 11 micro-mol/Litre. At this level, the viability of all but two bladder cancer lines was reduced from 40% to 80% in the current study. Mangosteen Extract Kills 99% of Breast Cancer Cells in Vitro: In this new study, alpha-mangostin, from mangosteen fruit, was shown to kill up to 99% of human breast cancer cells in vitro. Even more interesting is that for the first time ever, the researchers observed exactly how this mangosteen compound did this: by blocking Fatty Acid Synthase (FAS) and disrupting the cancer cell’s ability to make fatty acids—without which the breast cancer cells’ stop growing and die. It turns outs that many different cancers rely on Fatty Acid Synthase for their survival, which may explain why mangostin has been shown to be deadly also to prostate, liver, colon, and pancreatic cancers as well as leukemia in other lab studies. By the way, mangosteen also disrupts Fatty Acid Synthase in normal fat cells—stopping them from accumulating more fat, and may therefore help with weight loss. As an added benefit, a recent clinical trial showed that 6 to 18 oz of juice significantly lowered an important inflammation marker in obese patients—and that may in turn lower the risk for heart disease and diabetes. Mangosteen juice as well as standardized supplement pills are available widely in health food stores, and may just provide an extra measure of protection when used along with a healthy, balanced diet rich in organic vegetables, fruit, herbs and whole foods.

Thyme Essential Oil Potently Kills Lung Cancer Cells in Vitro: Oil from the common herb thyme was discovered to kill up to 97% of human lung cancer cells (A549) in vitro. It also potently killed breast and prostate cancer cells. In fact, thyme essential oil was the most powerful at killing cancer cells out of all 10 herb and spice essential oils tested in this study. (Only jasmine and cinnamon came closely behind thyme.) In other studies, thyme has also shown activity against oral and ovarian cancer. Thyme is native to the Mediterranean, and in fact was originally given the name “thyme” in Greece, where it is still used prolifically today in their cooking—in particular together with olive oil. Interestingly, very recent research has shown that combining thyme with olive oil actually enhances the availability of hydroxytyrosol—olive oil’s most potent anti-cancer compound. This may help explain why the Greeks have about half the rate of cancer compared to the rest of Europe and the USA. Thyme, or its essential oil, has also been used in Ayurvedic and traditional medicine owing to its strong antioxidant, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal (killing yeast like Candida) properties. It makes a great addition to a healthy diet focused on organic fruits, vegetables and whole foods and can be used as a herb in cooking or simply prepared as a tea.

Sage Kills 51% of Melanoma Cells in Vitro and Reduces Risk in Humans: The herb sage is rich in the powerful anti-cancer compound thujone, which in this study was shown to kill 51% of human melanoma cells in vitro. But does sage reduce melanoma risk in humans? Yes, according to a study out of the Italy, where this herb is often consumed as part of the traditional diet: people eating sage at least once weekly had 32% less risk of melanoma. Stevia Prevents 96% of Skin Cancer in Mice: An extract of stevia prevented 96% of chemically induced skin tumors in mice after 20 weeks – and at a dose of just 1 mg per mouse! The extract was also found to be an extremely potent natural anti-inflammatory agent. The stevia extract contained mainly stevioside and rebaudiosides A and C, and was applied to the skin of each mouse. Perhaps sunscreen of the future will contain stevia! Until then, eating or drinking stevia-sweetened products may also have protective effects – and not just against skin cancer. Stevia has been shown to potently kill breast cancer cells as well as to lower blood sugar levels in diabetes in recent lab studies. Stevia has also been tested in clinical trials on blood sugar control in diabetes and for dental health, but not yet against cancer. Until then, it’s probably a better choice than aspartame, which a recent large study showed may increase the risk of leukemia, multiple myeloma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma in humans.

Black Currant Inhibits 95% of Breast Cancer Cells in Vitro: In this study, the juice of black currants inhibited the growth of human breast cancer cells (MDA-MB-231) by 95% in vitro and killed 50% of them outright. Thirteen different berries were tested in this study, and black currants easily outperformed nearly all of them, including strawberries and blueberries (only gooseberries were more powerful). Why are blackcurrants so special? Not only do they contain more cancer fighting flavonoids than any other berry (blackberries are a close second) but they also happen to be a rich source of unique but powerful anticancer compounds such as delphinidin-3-O-glucoside and 4-Oxo-flavonoids, which are otherwise hard to find in our food supply (the herb sage is also a good sources). We don’t yet know what dose of blackcurrants is needed for a significant health benefit, but studies have already shown that women eating at least one serving weekly of blueberries cut their risk of ER- breast cancer by 31%, while three servings weekly of berries decreased women’s heart attack risk by 34%. So consider eating berries at least three times weekly, including black currants, to boost your general health. They go great in smoothies, or mixed into yogurt or cereal. Or try making a homemade sorbet by blending with ice, lime juice, orange zest and (optional) coconut cream.

The chlorella extract also severely damaged the cancer cells’ DNA, killing 76% of the cells outright (via apoptosis). Bean Sprouts Potently Kill Cervical Cancer & Liver Cancer Cells: In this study, an extract made from mung bean sprouts (which were purchased from a local market in Malaysia) was seen to kill 63% of human cervical cancer cells (HeLa) and 68% of human liver #cancer cells (HepG2) in vitro after 24 hours of treatment. Interestingly, the bean sprout extract induced programmed cell death (apoptosis) by triggering the release of pro-apoptotic cytokines as well as triggering multiple tumour suppressor related genes. Mung beans have been widely used as a food in China for at least 2000 years but their sprouts have far more powerful medicinal properties because the sprouting (germination) process releases levels of bio-active enzymes far higher than found in the mature beans. This has led to the use of the sprouts in traditional medicine to treat multiple diseases and health conditions. Olive Extract Kills 97% of Breast Cancer Cells: Oleuropein—a natural compound found in olives—killed 97% of human breast cancer cells (MDA-MB-231) in vitro in this lab study. This study adds to a large body of research showing that olive compounds are highly active against breast cancer. But does it work in humans? The science says yes. Multiple studies have shown that olive oil reduces breast cancer risk, with one recent study showing that consuming >21 grams (1.5 tablespoons) daily of olive oil reduces breast cancer risk by 71%. Cucumber Kills 96% of Breast Cancer Cells in Vitro and Reduces Risk in Women: Cucumber is rich in the compound cucurbitacin B, which in this study was shown to kill up to 96% of human breast cancer cells in vitro. And when mice were fed this natural compound, they had breast tumors 55% smaller than untreated mice after 6 weeks. Cucurbitacin B is a powerful anticancer compound and in lab studies has also been shown to potently suppress prostate, lung, and pancreatic cancer, as well as leukemia, neuroblastoma and others. Rosemary Kills 81% of Melanoma Cells in Vitro and Reduces Risk in Humans: The herb rosemary is particularly rich in ursolic acid, which in this study was shown to kill up to 81% of human melanoma cells (M4Beu) in vitro by destabilizing their mitochondria. Mitochondria are the power plants of the cell—when they shut down, the cell dies. This latest research confirms several past studies which have also shown rosemary to kill melanoma cells. So do these health benefits extend beyond “in vitro” lab studies? One fascinating study out of Italy suggests they do: researchers there found that consuming rosemary at least once weekly lowered melanoma risk by an astounding 60%. Cherry Extract Powerfully Kills Breast Cancer Cells in Vitro: In this new study, researchers found that an extract of cherries (Prunus Cerasus) killed over 50% of human breast cancer cells (MCF-7) in vitro. Cherries are a rich source of several potent anti-cancer compounds such as anthocyanins, hydroxycinnamic acid and monoterpenes, and they also happen to be one of the richest dietary sources of natural melatonin. In fact, clinical trials have shown that men and women who consumed cherries (as Montmorency cherry juice or Jerte Valley cherry extract) had significantly higher melatonin levels and also improved sleep quality. Blood Orange Oil Kills >80% of Colon Cancer Cells in Vitro: The oil naturally occurring in common blood oranges (mostly in the skin) was found to inhibit the viability of >80% of two types of human colon cancer cells (SW480 and HT-29) in the lab. The oil was found rich in D-limonene, a known major anti-cancer substance, but also contained 18 other compounds. The blood #orange oil triggered programmed cell death (apoptosis) and also potently suppressed markers for angiogenesis (where tumours grow new blood vessels to feed from their host’s blood supply). Blood oranges look like normal oranges except for their red coloring which can be anywhere from slightly pinkish flecks in the flesh to a deep crimson red throughout (and also in the skin). The red pigment comes from beneficial compounds (polyphenols) unique to blood oranges which make them superior to normal oranges. There are three types of blood oranges: Moro, Sanguinello and Tarocco. Their harvest season is from December through June. If you want to try some, remember that fresh is always better than packaged and preserved juice.

Bee Propolis Kills 74% of Breast Cancer Cells in Vitro: Researchers have just discovered that an extract of bee propolis kills 74% of human breast cancer cells in vitro. Propolis does this by destabilizing the cancer cells’ mitochondria (which are the power plants of the cell). Sesame Seed Kills >50% of Liver Cancer Cells in Vitro: Sesamin, the most abundant lignan in sesame seeds, was shown to kill over 50% of human liver cancer cells (HepG2) in the lab through the induction of programmed cell death (apoptosis) via interruption of the key STAT3 signalling pathway. This powerful lignan from sesame seeds has already been shown to kill a variety of cancer cells including breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer and leukemia. The researchers in this study stated that sesamin may be potential (natural) chemotherapy drug for liver cancer. Sesame seeds (and tahini) are a super-food for lignans, containing 132 mg of lignans per 100 grams of seeds – more than any other food except flax seeds, which contain 335 mg per 100 grams. Interestingly, chick peas come in third at 35 mg per 100 grams, which makes humus an excellent source of dietary lignans. You need about 5 mg daily of lignans for an anti-cancer effect. The standard industrialized world diet provides about 1 mg daily.

Marjoram Kills 92% of Breast Cancer Cells In Vitro: An extract of the common herb marjoram was found to decrease the viability of aggressive triple-negative human breast cancer cells (MDA-MB-231) by 92% after 48 hours of treatment by inducing programmed cell death (apoptosis). Furthermore, this extract also potently inhibited the growth of colonies of cancer cells in the lab, confirming its anticancer activity. The extract was prepared from fresh marjoram leaves that were obtained at a local farm and then dried and powdered. Marjoram contains high amounts of luteolin, a known anticancer polyphenol, but the herb’s other compounds (i.e. thymol, carvacrol, diosmetin, phenolic glycosides) are also expected to play a role in its effectiveness against cancer. Note that an earlier post on this page showed a separate study in which #marjoram reduced breast #cancer metastasis by 70%. The researchers stated that marjoram may be a promising therapeutic agent in fighting aggressive triple-negative breast cancer (and cancer in general). In other studies, marjoram has also already shown activity against leukemia and cervical cancer.

Physalis Fruit Extract Kills 93% of Kidney Cancer Cells In Vitro: An extract of the #physalis fruit (physalis angulate L., found mainly in tropical regions) potently reduced the viability of three different types of human #kidney #cancer cells (A498, ACHN, UO-31) from 89% to 93% after 48 hours of treatment. Cancer cell growth rate was reduced by up to 80% and the rate of cell death was increased by up to 1400%. Winter Squash Inhibits Breast Cancer by 96% In Vitro: Cucurbitacin, a triterpene found in winter squash varieties, was shown to inhibit the growth of human ER- breast #cancer cells (MDA-MB-231) by 96% after 72 hours of treatment compared to non-treated cell cultures. Cucurbitacin increased the rate of programmed cell death by up to 400% and strongly sensitized the cancer cells to the effects of the chemo drug cisplatin. Does this lab study have any backing from real world data? Yes. A recent study from the USA on over 75,000 women found that those eating 2 servings of winter squash weekly had 30% less risk of postmenopausal ER- breast cancer (which bordered on statistical significance). This result was impressive because the study looked at the women’s consumption of 17 different vegetables and winter squash was the only one – by a wide margin – to provide meaningful protection as a single agent, which suggests that for American women, winter squash could be a “super food” against breast cancer. Of course, eating plenty of vegetables in general (and berries, citrus fruit, nectarines and peaches) has also been associated with lower breast cancer rates.

Lime Juice Inhibits 89% of Pancreatic Cancer Cells In Vitro: In this lab study, four different extracts of Mexican lime juice (citrus aurantifolia) were all found to potently inhibit the growth of human #pancreatic #cancer cells (Panc-28) in vitro, up to 89% after 72 hours of treatment. This was due in part to direct killing of the cancer cells via programmed cell death (apoptosis). The lime juice also showed powerful free-radical scavenging activity. Several key compounds were identified in the #lime juice, such as rutin, neohesperidin, hesperidin and hesperitin as well as several limonoids. In real studies on humans, citrus fruits have often been shown to impart significant risk reductions for pancreatic cancer but limes are not consumed enough to be categorized alone. One recent study showed that those consuming 2-3 servings daily of citrus / melon / berries had a 30% reduced risk for pancreatic cancer, while those drinking 200-300 grams of orange or grapefruit juice had an astounding 48% reduced risk of pancreatic cancer (that’s just a normal drinking cup worth!). Personally, I consume the freshly squeezed juice of one lemon and one lime every day, and can clearly feel the boost it gives to my energy levels.

Green Tea Supplement Shrinks Fibroids by 33% in Clinical Trial: In this new placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical trial on 39 women aged 18-50 years, women receiving a green tea supplement saw their uterine fibroids shrink by 33% in just four months while those in the placebo group saw their #fibroids actually grow by 24% over the same time. Jujube (Red Date) Inhibits >95% Of Breast Cancer Cells in Vitro: An extract of Ziziphus jujube (red dates) was shown to inhibit the proliferation SKBR3 (ER-) breast cancer cells by over 95% in vitro, and for MCF-7 cells (ER+) by over 80% after 72 hours of treatment. Pineapple Extract Kills >90% of Stomach & Colon Cancer Cells: This new study tested bromelain, a natural extract from pineapples, against 2 types of stomach cancer cells and 2 types of chemo-resistant colon cancer cells. Apricot Treats Liver Cancer Successfully after Chemo Fails: In this incredible case study from Japan, a 60 year old woman with advanced liver cancer (HCC) saw her lung metastasis shrink by 95%, her lymph node metastasis shrink by 92% and her liver cancer marker (alpha fetoprotein – AFP) drop substantially after just three months of treatment with prunus mume, or Japanese #apricot, extract known as MK615. Incredibly, MK516 was given as a last resort after surgery, radiation (radiofrequency ablation) and chemotherapy (sorafenib) all completely failed to control the recurrence. Multivitamins Cut Breast Cancer Death Risk by 30%: A new study out of the US on over 161,000 women has shown that those who were consistently taking multivitamins at the time of their breast cancer diagnosis were 30% less likely to die of their cancer in the 7 years following diagnosis compared to women who did not use multivitamins. “Consistent use” meant that they were also taking their vitamins at least once weekly at the time of the “baseline” visit at the start of the study, which means they could have been taking the supplements for several years before their cancer diagnosis. Grape Seed Extract Kills 95% of Cervical Cancer Cells in Vitro: In this just-published study, researchers discovered that grape seed extract killed up to 95% of human cervical cancer cells (HeLa) in vitro, and when fed to mice, it reduced the growth rate of their tumors by a stunning 70%. Cervical cancer is the third most common cancer worldwide, and is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death among women. Studies on people have not yet proven a benefit of grape seed extract against cervical cancer, but they have indeed shown that it reduced skin cancer risk by 74%, prostate cancer risk by 62%, and hematologic cancers (i.e. leukemia) by 43% in people. Seaweed Kills 80% of Lung Cancer Cells and reduces Risk in Humans: In this new study, researchers found that an extract of the common edible seaweed Undaria (wakame) killed up to 80% of human lung cancer cells in the lab. The same extract also potently suppressed breast cancer, ovarian cancer, colon cancer, skin cancer, and neuroblastoma cells. But are these very positive lab results relevant to people? One of the largest ever health studies carried out in Japan suggests yes: it found that men and women who ate seaweed more than 5 times weekly had 23% less risk of lung cancer. Spirulina Halts 85% of Breast Cancer in Vivo: In this remarkable new study, the incidence of breast tumors in rats was reduced from 87% (for those not treated with spirulina) down to just 13% for those treated with spirulina. That’s a decrease of 85% in the incidence of tumors. The researchers in this study also saw that spirulina strongly inhibited growth and induced programmed cell death in the cancer cells. This is not the first study to show spirulina as a potent anti-cancer agent. DIY LIPOSOMAL CURCUMIN AS A CANCER CURATIVE!

Doctors and Big Pharma, as an industry, have made an art out of taking over people’s lives and selling chemotherapy drugs. Unfortunately chemo drugs kill healthy cells also. What to do?
When people find out they have cancer, often they feel helpless and hopelessly dependent on Doctors and hospitals. Doctors are able to use every leverage and influence to convince desperate cancer patients into doing chemo and radiation. Is there a better way?
WHY DO 3 OUT OF 4 DOCTORS SAY THEY WOULD NEVER TAKE CHEMO?
According to polls taken by accomplished scientists at the McGill Cancer Center 75% of Doctors would not take chemotherapy themselves (1). Could it be that these same 75% of Doctors are reading the studies which tell them that chemotherapy spreads cancer and makes it more aggressive? (2). Or maybe the Doctors read the UC Berkely study which said that cancer patients do better who do NOT take Chemo (3). Maybe they also read that radiation can make cancer cells 30X more powerful! (4). It is certainly not encouraging that Dr. Samuel S. Epstein wrote, “The National Cancer Institute, with enthusiastic support from the American Cancer Society…has effectively blocked funding for research and clinical trials on promising NON-TOXIC alternative cancer drugs for decades.”
NATURE TO THE RESCUE! THE MIRACLE OF CURCUMIN!
Curcumin is extracted from an Indian spice called turmeric. Curcumin is really good for healthy cells and it is one of the most important anti-cancer nutrients studied today. Over 2,000 published studies show it combats different cancers including that of the breast, prostate, liver, colon, and lung. If you discover that you have cancer, get on curcumin immediately to stop it from spreading. It actually stops the cancer cells from dividing (5).
It has never been more important for the cancer patient than to have the ability to get to a tumor with a natural herb that kills cancer cells but does NOT HARM healthy cells. In fact, it has become a life- saving necessity for millions. Today and everyday 1,500 people will die from cancer in the United States and 7.5 million people will die from cancer worldwide this year (6). All the while doctors have proof that plants have been shown to cure cancer and not damage the healthy cell (7)! What if we simply ignore them and defend using the term ‘cure” as defined by how many cancer cells are killed? Does it kill cancer without hurting the healthy cell and to what degree? Then we have a pro consumer definition. If we define the word “cure” as to mean “ eliminate or to kill cancer” and “restores natural health” then we see there are a plethora of peer reviewed , double blind studies where natural herbs are 50% curative, 70% curative, 90% curative, and even 100% curative. Let us take our language back and claim our birthright to natural health! Not all but many of these studies are “in vitro” which is sort of like saying, “in a petri dish under a microscope”. Many in vivo studies have shown herbs that actually cure cancer. You are just not told about it and many herbs have been shown, in vitro, to kill cancer without harming the healthy cell. Are there technologies that allow you to repeat these results by making your body a veritable petri dish for proven herbal cures? Yes! Is it possible to completely saturate cancers with even higher doses of herbal cures than are shown in the in vitro testing? Yes!

THERE ARE NEW WAYS TO GET CURATIVE MOLECULES TO THE CANCER!
There are many ways to saturate a cancer with a proven herbal cure or a poultice of multiple natural curative molecules. Among these are liposomal delivery, iontophoresis and transdermal dsmo delivery.
Among the many curative herbs which stop cancer let us look at Curcumin in point. Without the aid of special delivery systems Curcumin has been shown to reduce brain cancer by 81% in vitro.(8) This does not even factor in a 400% increase in effectiveness using liposomal delivery according to a recent liver cancer study showing a 92% curative rate(9)
When we take turmeric only 5% of that is curcumin. The liver actually gets rid of much of the curcumin that you take unless you block the process with piperine which is coincidentally also a 5% ingredient in black pepper. The piperine, according to Dr. Greger, increases the utilization of the curcumin by 2,000 %. (12 ) Apparently, even ¼ down to 1/20th a teaspoon of black pepper can cause this miraculous effect. Dr. Greger also mentioned that a natural oil mixed with the curcumin will also enhance delivery 7 to 8 times. Piperine oil is obviously a good ingredient to add to your liposomal formula. This would be powerful since Liposomal Curcumin already increases Liver Cancer Survival +400% over Standard Curcumin in Vivo: In a just-published breakthrough study, mice given a new form of liposomal curcumin had a 400% greater chance of surviving liver cancer compared to those given standard curcumin after nine weeks. It is very powerful: in the lab, it killed up to 92% of human liver cancer cells (HepG2) after only 72 hours.(9).
Curcumin is one of the most studied natural medicines for cancer, and is now being tested in no less than 16 clinical trials on cancer, including prostate cancer, breast cancer, colon cancer and osteosarcoma. Curcumin which is normally not well absorbed becomes an unexpected miracle worker in this new liposomal form which enhances absorption.
LIPOSOMES CAN ALLOW US TO TAKE CONTROL OF OUR BODIES!
With no access to needles or scalpels can we get a harmless curative molecule to a cancer site? YES! Can we do this ourselves and in adequate doses that can emulate successful “ in vitro“ and “in vivo’ natural cure study results? Yes we can! We have mentioned that medicine in general has followed the path which allows Complete Corporate Control of the patient’s body. In the past this has meant that the patient has no access to the inside of their own body. Monopolies and Doctors have owned this realm beginning with the Standard American Diet (SAD) and ending with expensive scans and x-rays and testing and finally topping out with $100,000.00 a year for a single chemotherapy drug.(10) Big Pharma made 100 billion dollars on cancer drugs in 2014 alone. (11) New rules! It is time for change! Your health does not have to be off limits to you!
LIPOSOMAL DELIVERY CAN ACTUALLY BE SUPERIOR TO NEEDLES AND SCALPLES RETURNING YOUR BODY BACK TO YOU!
. Putting water-soluble nutrients in liposomes can reportedly give as much as 90% absorption of the nutrient into the cells in our bodies. By comparison, working primarily with liposomal vitamin C, Dr. Hunningshake tells us that intravenous vitamin C reportedly gives only about 20% absorption into cells. He reports that taking high potency tablets of vitamin C gives considerably less than that.(13)
We need oil for the liposomal process. Besides the tiniest amount of piperine oil we want an emulsifying oil (which binds water and oil together) and we suggest NON GMO sunflower lecithin. Lecithin is a natural emulsifying agent and is a phospholipid which is a type of oil with other beneficial properties. Lecithin’s molecular structure makes it an effective emulsifier for the interaction of water and oil. Phospholipids, the major component of lecithin, are partly hydrophilic (attracted to water) and partly hydrophobic (repelled from water). It is lecithin’s ability to simultaneously interact with both oil and water that makes it such an effective and stable emulsifier. Phosphatidyl choline is one of the main phospholipids in lecithin and it is very healthy for the body and the mind. The phospholipids help the liposome to enter cell walls and once there drop off the curcumin.

SONICATION IN AN ULTRASONIC CLEANER TO CREATE LIPOSOMES!

With liposomal delivery, micronic sized droplets surround the curcumin molecule. This can be created different ways. However, “sonication” is an industry standard method. (14). Sonication can be done with a simple ultrasonic jewelry cleaner. We recommend a larger more hardy ultrasonic cleaner as a DIY liposomal delivery processor. For $60.00 up to $90.00 you can get a two+ liter industrial model. The cheaper cleaners have a timer that runs out in three minutes so to do twenty minutes you have to turn it back on 7 times. This can overheat the cheaper model. Some YouTube instructionals recommend up to a thirty minute sonication period.
You can use a very tiny amount of piperine oil and a larger amount of non GMO Sunflower Lecithin. Add some distilled water and your curcumin powder and if you wish throw in a little vitamin C or other cancer curatives. Turn the unit on for at least twenty minutes. Tests show great successes using 4 grams or less orally, which is about a small shot glass. We recommend that you search YouTube among many DIY instructionals for making liposomal vitamin C and use these as further guidelines to make liposomal Curcumin. Below is one recipe using Vitamin C and Resveratrol and Curcumin.
WARNING! CAN YOU KILL TOO MANY CANCER CELLS AT ONCE?
If you kill too many cancer cells at once it can cause “Herxheimers Syndrome” which is a poisoning of your body by an overwhelming number of dead cancer cells. To avoid this, simply go slow and also take Bromelain or other hydrolytic enzymes which will turn the dead cancer cells into water. Bromelain powder has a good taste and you will notice you are taking too much of it at once if it gives you diarrhea which is also true for large doses of vitamin C. So go slow Joe!
Note: The below instructions involve using the cheaper ultrasonic cleaner, and using baking soda to neutralize the vitamin C, which could be replaced with buffered Vitamin C. None of these difficulties are encountered if you are only making liposomal Curcumin by itself, so to begin simply you may choose to leave out the other ingredients till you get the hang of it.

DIY INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING A LIPOSOMAL CURCUMIN, RESVERATROL, AND VITAMIN- C COMBINATION:

1. Using a glass or stainless steel sauce pan warm 1 ½ cup of distilled water to 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit). More liposomes are created if it is slightly heated and pre-mixtures also blend better with heated water, while too hot may damage the molecule.

2. In two 12 oz. or larger sealable jars place ½ cup (4 oz.) of the warmed distilled water in each.

3. Add 3 tablespoons of non-GMO soy lecithin (for instance Swansons brand in bulk) to each jar. Seal jars and agitate each vigorously for 3 – 5 minutes. Set jars aside allowing the lecithin granules to soak up distilled water.

4. After soaking for two or more hours shake/agitate each jar vigorously (I use a hand blender) until smooth creamy lecithin solutions in each jar with no visible lecithin granules.

5. Place 10 grams Curcumin (3 1/3 level teaspoons) in one jar of lecithin solution, close jar tightly and agitate/shake aggressively for 3 – 5 minutes until Curcumin is in solution.

6. Place 3 grams Resveratrol (3 level teaspoons) in the 2nd jar of lecithin solution, close jar and agitate/shake aggressively for 3 – 5 minutes until Trans-Resveratrol is in solution.

7. Pour contents of both jars together into ultra-sonic cleaner and turn the unit on. Stir with straw through the first cycle. (Approximately 2 – 3 minutes.)

8. Start next ultrasonic cycle. When ultrasonic unit stops start again. Continue running cycles and stir occasionally while accomplishing the following.

9. Wash your sealable jars. Place two oz. of warm distilled water in each jar.

10. Add 1 Tablespoon prescription Vitamin C powder (I use the Perque brand) to 1st jar, seal and shake/agitate vigorously until Vitamin C is dissolved.

11. To neutralize the Vitamin C dissolve 1 Heaping tablespoon of baking soda in 2nd jar, seal and shake / agitate vigorously until bicarbonate of soda is dissolved.

12. While stirring the Vitamin C / distilled water solution very slowly, pour/dribble the dissolved bicarbonate of soda/water mixture into the Vitamin C / distilled water solution. (Pour soda solution slowly as the resulting mixture will bubble). By pouring slowing and constantly stirring Vitamin C solution you will be able to mix the two without bubbling over.)

13. At the conclusion of mixing the bicarbonate of soda mixture into the Vitamin C mixture bubbling will cease. Pour the resulting total Vitamin C / Bicarbonate of Soda mix together into what was the Bicarbonate of Soda jar and swirl to dissolve any soda that may have settled out.

14. Pour the resulting Vitamin C / bicarbonate of soda mixture in ultrasonic unit with the Lecithin, Resveratrol, Curcumin mix.

15. Operate the ultrasonic cleaner for 4 additional cycles or 10 minutes. (I run the cleaner for 30 minutes, 3 runs of 10 min cycles)

16. Measure the pH of the resulting Liposomal combination. You are seeking a pH 7.25 – 7.50. . * Both Vitamin C and Resveratrol are acidic. If needed add very small amounts of additional soda to buffer resulting Liposomal to neutral.

You can pour the finished product into a glass Patron Silver Tequila bottle and top with a cork and keep refrigerated. Take a shot in the morning and in the evening. DIY LIPOSOMAL CURCUMIN AS A CANCER CURATIVE!

Doctors and Big Pharma, as an industry, have made an art out of taking over people’s lives and selling chemotherapy drugs. Unfortunately chemo drugs kill healthy cells also. What to do?
When people find out they have cancer, often they feel helpless and hopelessly dependent on Doctors and hospitals. Doctors are able to use every leverage and influence to convince desperate cancer patients into doing chemo and radiation. Is there a better way?
WHY DO 3 OUT OF 4 DOCTORS SAY THEY WOULD NEVER TAKE CHEMO?
According to polls taken by accomplished scientists at the McGill Cancer Center 75% of Doctors would not take chemotherapy themselves (1). Could it be that these same 75% of Doctors are reading the studies which tell them that chemotherapy spreads cancer and makes it more aggressive? (2). Or maybe the Doctors read the UC Berkely study which said that cancer patients do better who do NOT take Chemo (3). Maybe they also read that radiation can make cancer cells 30X more powerful! (4). It is certainly not encouraging that Dr. Samuel S. Epstein wrote, “The National Cancer Institute, with enthusiastic support from the American Cancer Society…has effectively blocked funding for research and clinical trials on promising NON-TOXIC alternative cancer drugs for decades.”
NATURE TO THE RESCUE! THE MIRACLE OF CURCUMIN!
Curcumin is extracted from an Indian spice called turmeric. Curcumin is really good for healthy cells and it is one of the most important anti-cancer nutrients studied today. Over 2,000 published studies show it combats different cancers including that of the breast, prostate, liver, colon, and lung. If you discover that you have cancer, get on curcumin immediately to stop it from spreading. It actually stops the cancer cells from dividing (5).
It has never been more important for the cancer patient than to have the ability to get to a tumor with a natural herb that kills cancer cells but does NOT HARM healthy cells. If we define the word “cure” as to mean “ eliminate or to kill cancer” and “restores natural health” then we see there are a plethora of peer reviewed , double blind studies where natural herbs are 50% curative, 70% curative, 90% curative, and even 100% curative. Let us take our language back and claim our birthright to natural health! Not all but many of these studies are “in vitro” which is sort of like saying, “in a petri dish under a microscope”. Many in vivo studies have shown herbs that actually cure cancer. You are just not told about it and many herbs have been shown, in vitro, to kill cancer without harming the healthy cell. Are there technologies that allow you to repeat these results by making your body a veritable petri dish for proven herbal cures? Yes! Is it possible to completely saturate cancers with even higher doses of herbal cures than are shown in the in vitro testing? Yes!

THERE ARE NEW WAYS TO GET CURATIVE MOLECULES TO THE CANCER!

It is very powerful: in the lab, it killed up to 92% of human liver cancer cells (HepG2) after only 72 hours.(9).

LIPOSOMAL DELIVERY CAN ACTUALLY BE SUPERIOR TO NEEDLES AND SCALPLES RETURNING YOUR BODY BACK TO YOU!
. Putting water-soluble nutrients in liposomes can reportedly give as much as 90% absorption of the nutrient into the cells in our bodies. By comparison, working primarily with liposomal vitamin C, Dr. Hunningshake tells us that intravenous vitamin C reportedly gives only about 20% absorption into cells. He reports that taking high potency tablets of vitamin C gives considerably less than that.(13)
We need oil for the liposomal process. Besides the tiniest amount of piperine oil we want an emulsifying oil (which binds water and oil together) and we suggest NON GMO sunflower lecithin. Lecithin is a natural emulsifying agent and is a phospholipid which is a type of oil with other beneficial properties. Lecithin’s molecular structure makes it an effective emulsifier for the interaction of water and oil. Phospholipids, the major component of lecithin, are partly hydrophilic (attracted to water) and partly hydrophobic (repelled from water). It is lecithin’s ability to simultaneously interact with both oil and water that makes it such an effective and stable emulsifier. Phosphatidyl choline is one of the main phospholipids in lecithin and it is very healthy for the body and the mind. The phospholipids help the liposome to enter cell walls and once there drop off the curcumin.

SONICATION IN AN ULTRASONIC CLEANER TO CREATE LIPOSOMES!

With liposomal delivery, micronic sized droplets surround the curcumin molecule. This can be created different ways. However, “sonication” is an industry standard method. (14). Sonication can be done with a simple ultrasonic jewelry cleaner. We recommend a larger more hardy ultrasonic cleaner as a DIY liposomal delivery processor. For $60.00 up to $90.00 you can get a two+ liter industrial model. The cheaper cleaners have a timer that runs out in three minutes so to do twenty minutes you have to turn it back on 7 times. This can overheat the cheaper model. Some YouTube instructionals recommend up to a thirty minute sonication period.
You can use a very tiny amount of piperine oil and a larger amount of non GMO Sunflower Lecithin. Add some distilled water and your curcumin powder and if you wish throw in a little vitamin C or other cancer curatives. Turn the unit on for at least twenty minutes. Tests show great successes using 4 grams or less orally, which is about a small shot glass. We recommend that you search YouTube among many DIY instructionals for making liposomal vitamin C and use these as further guidelines to make liposomal Curcumin. Below is one recipe using Vitamin C and Resveratrol and Curcumin.
WARNING! CAN YOU KILL TOO MANY CANCER CELLS AT ONCE?
If you kill too many cancer cells at once it can cause “Herxheimers Syndrome” which is a poisoning of your body by an overwhelming number of dead cancer cells. To avoid this, simply go slow and also take Bromelain or other hydrolytic enzymes which will turn the dead cancer cells into water. Bromelain powder has a good taste and you will notice you are taking too much of it at once if it gives you diarrhea which is also true for large doses of vitamin C. So go slow Joe!
Note: The below instructions involve using the cheaper ultrasonic cleaner, and using baking soda to neutralize the vitamin C, which could be replaced with buffered Vitamin C. None of these difficulties are encountered if you are only making liposomal Curcumin by itself, so to begin simply you may choose to leave out the other ingredients till you get the hang of it.

DIY INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING A LIPOSOMAL CURCUMIN, AND VITAMIN- C COMBINATION:

1. Using a glass or stainless steel sauce pan warm 1 ½ cup of distilled water to 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit). More liposomes are created if it is slightly heated and pre-mixtures also blend better with heated water, while too hot may damage the molecule.

2. In two 12 oz. or larger sealable jars place ½ cup (4 oz.) of the warmed distilled water in each.

3. Add 3 tablespoons of non-GMO soy lecithin (for instance Swansons brand in bulk) to each jar. Seal jars and agitate each vigorously for 3 – 5 minutes. Set jars aside allowing the lecithin granules to soak up distilled water.

4. After soaking for two or more hours shake/agitate each jar vigorously (I use a hand blender) until smooth creamy lecithin solutions in each jar with no visible lecithin granules.

5. Place 10 grams Curcumin (3 1/3 level teaspoons) in one jar of lecithin solution, close jar tightly and agitate/shake aggressively for 3 – 5 minutes until Curcumin is in solution.

6. Place 3 grams Resveratrol (3 level teaspoons) in the 2nd jar of lecithin solution, close jar and agitate/shake aggressively for 3 – 5 minutes until Trans-Resveratrol is in solution.

Antioxidant-Rich Dates May Fight Breast Cancer: If you needed one more reason to enjoy delicious dates this season, here it is. Researchers have just found that date extract is so toxic to breast cancer cells, it slowed their growth by 95% in vitro and killed 59% of them outright. Interestingly, the extract affected the cancer cells by destabilizing their mitochondria, which are the power plants of the cell. In the real world, eating dates has indeed been linked to cancer prevention: a recent study from Jordan showed that people eating one serving daily had 52% less colon cancer. What makes dates so powerful? They are the single most concentrated source of cancer-fighting polyphenols of any known fruit: 100 grams of dried dates deliver 2100 mg of polyphenols, more than double any other dried fruit (prunes are next at 1012 mg). Fresh or partly dried dates are even better (and more delicious) if you can find them. Dates have even been shown to boost immunity (in mice) by increasing the number of CD4+ cells significantly. Interestingly, CD4+ cells are one of the main immune cells which fight cancer by infiltrating tumors and killing cancer cells one by one, so this may partly explain why dates were so protective in the colon cancer study.

Sage May Fight Multiple Cancers and Has Proven Health Benefits: Researchers have shown in this new study that extracts of the common herb sage powerfully suppressed multiple cancers at the lab scale, including cervical, liver, colon and lung cancers as well as melanoma. Population studies from Italy have already confirmed that eating sage is linked to reduced cancer risk in people: those eating the herb at least once weekly had 32% less melanoma, while those eating sage “regularly” (exact dose not given) had 57% less lung cancer. What makes this herb so powerful? It’s rich in thujone, cineole, carnosol, caffeic acid and chlorogenic acid—all powerful antioxidants and known cancer-fighters in their own rights. And fighting cancer is just one of their benefits. Clinical trials on humans have already shown that sage significantly improves memory in older adults (dose: 333 mg of extract daily), enhances cognitive performance in patients with Alzheimer’s (dose: 60 drops daily of liquid extract), and lowers fasting blood sugar, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides in type II diabetics (dose: 500 mg extract daily). Sage can be consumed as supplements, prepared as a tea, or used generously as a herb in a variety of dishes.

Blueberry Compound Slows Breast Cancer Growth by 58%: Researchers have one more clue how blueberries prevent breast cancer in women. They’ve just discovered that cyanidin, an anthocyanin found abundantly in blueberries, disrupts key cell signaling in triple-negative breast cancer cells so effectively, it slowed the growth of breast tumors in mice by 58%. Population studies have already shown that two servings per week of blueberries (as minimum) has been linked to 44% less ER- breast cancer, 40% less aggressive prostate cancer, 36% less colon cancer, and 22% less lung cancer. As a side benefit, blueberries have been shown in clinical trials to boost immunity, lower blood pressure, accelerate muscle recovery after intense exercise and most impressively to improve learning and memory and reduce depressive symptoms in older adults (dose: two cups wild blueberry juice or 100 grams fresh berries daily). Blueberries are a great low-calorie snack any time of day and are delicious in yogurt, cereal, oatmeal and fruit smoothies. But they also keep most of their anthocyanins intact during baking, making blueberry pie (a favorite of mine) a very healthy snack indeed.

Sweet Potato is Toxic to Breast Cancer: Researchers are one step closer to understanding how sweet potato reduces breast cancer risk in women (by 30% for women eating it three times weekly). In this new study, sweet potato extracts proved so toxic to metastatic breast cancer cells, they killed off up to 89% of them in 24 hours. The most potent extracts were those with the highest levels of beta-carotene, chlorogenic acid, quercetin, kaempferol, gallic acid and myricetin. Sweet potatoes are a particularly good source of all of them, and (not surprisingly) each one is known to powerfully suppress cancer. As an added benefit, sweet potatoes are also rich in the alkalizing mineral potassium (475 mg per serving) which is one third more than bananas, and delivers over 160% the alkalizing power of pure lemon juice! Eating sweet potato three times weekly has also been linked to reduced risk of kidney cancer risk (-56%) and gallbladder cancer (-67%) in other studies. So this Thanksgiving and Christmas, try some new sweet potato recipes! They’re great in pie, boiled and mashed, steamed, or my personal favorite: roasted with herbs, olive oil and sea salt until golden brown and crisp on the edges.

Artichoke is a powerful killer of Breast Cancer Cells. In this study, extracts from the common globe artichoke killed up to 95% of human breast cancer cells in vitro by increasing the production damaging free radicals beyond the ability of the cancer cells to repair. Intriguingly, these same extracts act as potent antioxidants for healthy cells. In fact, artichokes are so powerful that they deliver more antioxidants than blueberries or strawberries—and double that of apples.
